Can you rely on AI alone to identify mushrooms?
No. AI can help narrow possibilities, but it is not a safe stand-alone authority for edible wild mushroom decisions. Identification depends on subtle features such as spore color, bruising, smell, habitat, cap attachment, and cross-section structure that may not be captured in a single image. The correct safety standard is that AI is a support tool, not the final call. If the consequence of being wrong is poisoning, the bar for certainty has to stay higher than a model guess.
